Mijas' picturesque Sitio de Calahonda delivered a scorching summer extravaganza with its renowned 'Dia de Calahonda' community bash, setting hearts ablaze on Saturday, July 1.



This sizzling soirée has become an unmissable highlight on the Mijas social calendar, luring in locals and tourists alike with its magnetic charm.

In honour of Sitio de Calahonda's impressive 60-year journey, this year's jubilee jamboree pulled out all the stops. The festivities were adorned with thrilling games, an electrifying raffle, toe-tapping live music, and a mouth-watering spread of delectable treats and refreshing libations. Like a well-oiled machine, around 400 eager revellers congregated to soak up the infectious vibes and bask in the neighbourhood's legendary camaraderie.

Daniela Wenk, one of the brilliant minds behind the event, couldn't help but beam with pride as she described the triumphant affair, emphasizing the staggering turnout of enthusiastic guests.

The sunlit celebration kicked off with a swing as avid golfers teed off at La Siesta Golf Course. Approximately 30 golf enthusiasts put their skills to the test, revelling in a spirited nine-hole, par-three course against a breath-taking backdrop. It was a hole-in-one moment, capturing the essence of the festivities.

As the afternoon rolled in, a whirlwind of exhilarating activities ensued. Children giggled and played amidst a backdrop of enchanting games, while an enthralling raffle kept the anticipation soaring. The pièce de resistance, a captivating photography contest, saw Quinton Preston emerge as the champion with a mesmerizing sunset snapshot that left judges awestruck. The lucky winner will savour the taste of victory with a drinks voucher for The Irish Times Bar.

As the velvety night sky draped its embrace, an open-air fiesta erupted within the enchanting pine grove of Calahonda. Treading Four took the stage, infusing the air with their irresistible melodies and electrifying beats. Local businesses threw themselves into the heart of the international summer celebration, offering prizes and mingling with locals, fuelling the vibrant atmosphere with their unwavering passion.

The Calahonda Day extravaganza and the thrilling golf tournament stood as a testament to the unyielding spirit of Sitio de Calahonda—a spirit fuelled by community, friendship, and boundless joy, as the neighbourhood reached its illustrious 60-year milestone.
