"Spain's Costa del Sol Gem Tops Global Poll as Expat Paradise for Living and Working"

In a global survey involving 12,000 expatriates, an enchanting Andalucian city has been hailed as the world's premier haven for both living and working.

This comprehensive poll delved into aspects such as lifestyle quality, cost-effectiveness, and the ease of assimilation to pinpoint the ultimate expatriate hotspot. Forbes, in collaboration with InterNations – a worldwide expat community – conducted this survey, encompassing 177 nationalities across 181 nations.

The criteria for judgment included lifestyle quality, affordability, and the ease of integrating into the new environment, leading to the discovery of the top expat destination. Among the contenders, three Spanish cities made the list, but it was Malaga in Andalucía that clinched the coveted first place.

Participants in the survey praised Malaga for its safety, budget-friendly public transport, ample sporting opportunities, and vibrant social scene. Moreover, the city scored high on hospitality, climatic appeal, and achieving a harmonious work-life balance.

Despite its many accolades, Malaga ranked 41st when it came to job prospects. Trailing closely behind in the ranks were Alicante and Valencia, securing the second and third positions, respectively.

Madrid, Spain's bustling capital, earned the sixth position, celebrated for its abundant job opportunities and high standard of living. Barcelona, another major Spanish city, also featured in the poll, securing the 13th spot. Last year, U.S. cities like Miami and New York held prominent positions in the rankings.

However, this year saw a dramatic shift, with New York plummeting to the 39th place due to the cost of living crisis, job scarcity, and an imbalanced work-life equation. Miami, on the other hand, vanished from the list.

The top twenty places in the poll are as follows: Málaga, Alicante, Valencia, Ras Al Khaimah, Abu Dhabi, Madrid, Mexico City, Kuala Lumpur, Bangkok, Muscat, Dubai, Lisbon, Barcelona, Amsterdam, Nairobi, Zurich, Athens, Stockholm, Luxembourg, and The Hague.
